IN AUSTRIA
CHRISTKIND

In Austria the bearer of the gifts is not Santa Claus; it’s Christkind. They are often depicted as an angelic child figure with long blonde locks of hair, a halo and wings. They bring the presents on Christmas Eve into all homes without being seen.

In many homes the parents open a window right before it’s time so the Christkind can fly in. A bell  is secretly rung by the parents to announce the arrival of the presents and to let the children know that they can enter the room.
